Renewable energy is the key to reducing greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change and global warming. Rooftop solar installations save building owners money on their monthly utility payments and begin to reduce greenhouse gas pollution into our local atmosphere.
Los Gatos Rotarian Chris Potter was trained by SunWork.org and volunteered during the week of November 10, 2020 at a solar panel installation project for the non-profit Insight Retreat Center in Scotts Valley near Santa Cruz. Volunteers staged and installed 90 new solar panels on a 2-story modified bitumen roof with a microinverter system.
Any Rotary Club can start a new service project for climate change action by becoming trained and participating in rooftop solar installations for non-profit organization buildings your local community. SunWork.org, a non-profit solar installer serving the San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Coast of California, trains Rotary service volunteers in the basics of solar, electricity, and construction safety. Then, Rotarians will work together with SunWork’s professional staff, installing racking, running conduit, hanging inverters, and mounting the solar panels on the rooftops of non-profit organization buildings, such as schools, churches, and charities.
