Announcements
March birthdays were celebrated and Don McCleve played the piano for us.
 
Nancy Jane Roberts Bowen, wife of Ed Bowen, sadly passed away on 2/26/20. Nancy and Ed were married for 54 years. A Celebration will be held at the San Jose Country Club Thursday, March 19, 11:00 AM. Donations in her honor may be made to Lucille Packard Childrens’ Hospital.
 
Marty updated the Club regarding the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak including reminders for preventative measures.
 
The Area 8 Rise Against Hunger service project was held last Saturday.  David Karwowski shared that it was a great experience and a huge success. There were over 100 volunteers and they packaged 10,000 meals in 45 minutes. Our Club’s Rise Against Hunger service project will take place on June 20, 2020 at the Methodist Church in Los Gatos.
 
 
The Great Race is coming up on April 19, 2020. Mike Norcia announced that an email will be coming out soon regarding the Committee meeting date, time and location. All Club Members are encouraged to help out on the day of the event.
 
Maddie Smith announced that our First Thursday Happy Hour will be held this Thursday, March 5th at Number One Broadway in Los Gatos from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
 
Sylvia Whitlock will be speaking at the Rotary Club of Cupertino, Quinlan Community Center on March 11, 2020  from 12:00pm – 1:30pm.
 
Tina Orsi-Hartigan announced:
  • The winner of our Club’s Youth Speech Contest has won the contest for Area 8 and will move on to the Regional Competition.  
  • Our Club will be feeding the homeless at St. Luke’s Pantry on March 17 at 9:30am.
  • The District 5170 Community Service Project Faire will be held on March 14, 2020 at DRYCO Fremont from 9:00am – 12:00pm.
 
Chris Potter announced the Homeless Organic Farm Service Project in Santa Cruz will take place on March 21, 2020 from 10:00am – 4:00pm.
 
Marty announced that all of the Philanthropy applications have been received. The Committee will review them for approval and the funds will be dispersed in June, 2020.
 
Students from Los Gatos High School spoke about their Reality Check Program which addresses multiple student issues including; mental health, coming out, family life, and rejection. They collaborate with a professional Therapist to address these issues monthly and provide a document to the local community that includes resource information for those in need.
 
Next week’s speaker will be Tim Wong who will be talking about artificial intelligence applied to autonomous vehicles.
 
Presentation
The Fisher Middle School Chamber Music group, under the direction of Aryn Krijnen player four beautiful pieces of music for us. They did a wonderful job and received a standing ovation from the Club.
