Marty Fishman announced:
  • First Thursday hours will be changed to 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Children will not be included due to the presence of alcohol.
  • The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the Los Gatos Lodge.
  • The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund Drive has reached $30,000 from 67% of Club Membership.  We would like to reach $35,000 and 100% Club Member participation.
  • The Great Race is scheduled for April 19, 2020.
  • World Polio Day is October 24, 2019.  Marty shared a “Brief but Spectacular” video about a woman sharing her experience with contracting Polio in India, being raised by an adoptive family in the US and excelling both academically and as a challenged athlete.
  • “Rotarian at Work” t-shirts are for sale at $15 each.
  • Our Club support of Uplift Family Services has increased from a 3 week drive to a year-round service project. Please contact Gae La Torre regarding donations of new and gently used clothing and items for the home.
  • Our Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley project will take place this Saturday, October 19, 2019.
  • The Youth Science Institute (YSI) Sip & Support wine tasting fundraiser and silent auction will be held this coming Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 3:00pm – 6:00pm at Testarossa’s Wine Bar 107.
  • We will be supporting the St. Luke’s Pantry Morning Brunch on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. Please coordinate your food donations with Tina Orsi-Hartigan.
  • Avis La Grone is selling tickets for the November 2, 2019 Rotary Vietnam Project fundraising dinner at $100 each, $60 of which is tax deductible. This Project aims to eliminate human trafficking of Vietnamese children.
  • Patti van der Burg announced a save-the-date for our Annual Crabfest, scheduled for January 25, 2020.
  • Amy Potts asked members to “Like” our Facebook posts to spread the word about our efforts to highlight Polio.
  • Next week’s Speaker will be Dag Spicer, Senior Curator of The Computer History Museum.

Michael Lella – Michael shared a synopsis of “Beneath a Scarlet Sky’: A book written by Mark Sullivan that details Mike’s father’s teenage years spent leading dozens of Italian Jews to safety across the Alps then as a driver and spy for one of Hitler’s Generals during World War 2.  It is an amazing story that has sold over 3 million copies and is currently being made into a movie.
 
Marty thanked Michael by donating 50 inoculations in his name.
