Meeting Notes from September 15, 2026

Meeting was held at the Blossom Hill School multi-purpose room due to Shir Hadash being unavailable. Rachelle called the meeting to order at 12:30.

Suzanne gave inspiration, reading a mother’s letter to the world about treating her son gently as she sends him to kindergarten.

President Rachelle announced the arrival of member Bliss Zin’s new baby this week, named Zed. She also noted we were remiss in announcing member Derrick’s son Liam who is now 2?

Joe and Louise from the Grande Center spoke briefly, thanking us for our ongoing support, including the school bus that gets the students to the campus in El Salvador. 1st through 6th grade is now open in this bi-lingual school. There will be a spring trip coming up for interested Rotarians that want to visit the school.

The Great Race is coming soon Sept 26! Please register yourself and gift a registration to a friend. We need to get our numbers up for this important fundraiser. Post flyers, like the club’s social media posts, and volunteer through sign up genius. See Martha Sterne for more details.

Nathan reviewed the club budget and was happy to announce it is balanced and dues do not need to go up. Expenses came down toward the end of the year, plus some charitable giving was moved to the Charities Foundation Budget. He is willing to sit down with any member to discuss budget details, just give him a call.

Kathy White, sponsored by Anna Maria Valenzuela, received her Red Badge. Welcome Kathy!

Eleanor Yick gave her Blue Badge Bio. She was born and raised in the Bronx, became a teacher and taught there. In 1968 she moved to Berkeley and lived through martial law with flowers in her hair. In 1972 she moved to San Jose, married Dave then had 2 kids, and taught the Norcia’s in Saratoga. In 1989 she moved to LG in time for the earthquake, and was a superintendent in Mtn View. In retirement she has worked for League of Women Voters, LG Town Senior Commissions, LG Thrives, and now Rotary. We are lucky to have her!

Rachelle thanked Tina for her tireless weekly efforts to run our Tuesday St Luke brunch for the homeless.

Elaine announced the speaker, our own Dr Gordon Levin to discuss his adventurous flying experiences.
