After a virtual “walk about” with lots of smiles and waving, and a brief Zoom technical issue, the meeting was called to order. Approximately 54 Rotarians attended. Guests included Lydia Norcia, and Katie Anderson visiting from Napa Sunshine Rotary.

President Marty gave a big thanks to Doug Brent for helping members navigate the new format Zoom meetings. He continues to help those that have questions and want to get setup to join. We were also asked to mute ourselves within the Zoom screen, unless we are trying to contribute something verbally, because otherwise random background noises make it hard to hear the presenter.

The pledge of allegiance was led by President Marty. Suzanne read an inspiration that thanked healthcare workers, journalists, grocery store workers, and all those staying at home so we can all do our part. She also showed a humorous video of how to entertain yourself with a  golf ball obstacle course in the house. Marty shared some online funnies regarding the shelter in place and toilet paper hoarding, and even suggested a club quarantine beard contest. He also shared a slide for suggested activities…great ideas!

Marty reviewed the Shelter in Place guidelines, the Santa Clara County Coronavirus Dashboard Tracker, and the N-95 mask details. Marty thanked Greg Gomon for forwarding details on the Verily Project Baseline: it allows you to get tested free for the virus at the county fairgrounds. (see slides for details).

Mike Norcia gave details on the Great Social Distancing Race. Run or walk by May 1 and enter your time online. Medals for top finishers. Share your photos. There is also a refund option.

Carol Abela is coordinating Rotary Buddies, so see him if you want to volunteer, or if you need a little help getting necessities, or just an occasional chat.

Dick Konrad is coordinating all Avenues of Service, including West Valley, St Luke’s, Red Cross Blood Drive, House of Hope etc.

President Marty noted our meetings will continue via Zoom at least thru April, and will continue the time slot of Tuesdays 12:30-1:30. Feel free to invite friends. He listed some possibilities for topics such as older member stories, and listed what some other clubs are doing. He also gave details of next week’s speaker Dr Judith C. Miner. Chancellor of Foothill De Anza Community College District.

The Club now has a Book Group! Discussions will be via Zoom. Leaders will volunteer and rotate to lead discussion. Members so far include Barbara Fishman, the Boyces, Tina, and Suzanne.

First Thursday is this week! Hosted by Randy Cobb and Kathie 5:30-7:00 via Zoom. Check your emails for the link and join the fun. BYOB ha

The 3 Philanthropy Committees are in process of reviewing champion forms. See slides for details of this year’s projected philanthropy giving totaling $203,000! Also note that Polio Plus efforts will start soon. A Q and A video with Dr. Fauci was shown with helpful pointers. There were some questions regarding mask policy, which is changing daily, and it was noted availability is a concern and that hospitals need them most.

The meeting was adjourned.
