Meeting was called to order by new President Rachelle Lopp.

- Paul Johnson’s guest was Dan Deguara, new superintendent of the LGUSD.

- New Rotarian Flavio had two guests from Niles Fremont Rotary, including Fun Mary.
- Ane Troger and Fabio had their daughter Catarina and Ane’s mother.
- A Saratoga Rotarian and Assistant Governor was visiting to support Rachelle.
- Rachelle’s husband Michael Lopp was visiting.
Inspiration
Ryan told the tale of a struggling screenwriter and actor who finally got someone to buy his first script only if he could act in it. The movie was Rocky and the actor was Sylvester Stallone. The message was to not give up on your dreams.

Birthday balloons, a new tradition, will be tied on the Rotarian chairs for that month.
Super Club
The Super Club was another big success at Opelia last week. The next one will be announced by coordinator Henry.

Red Badge
Flavio Diaz Torres received his new member red badge from sponsor the Greek (Mike F). He’s already active and a great addition!
Blue Badge Bio
Ken Glass presented his new member blue badge bio. He started life at a Texas cattle ranch before getting a degree and working in the oil industry. He had a career change by going to law school and becoming a patent attorney. He now runs Glass & Associates in town. He has two sons and loves sailing and outdoor adventure. Welcome Ken!
Great Race
Mike Norcia and team presented information on the September 26 Great Race. This is one of our two main fundraisers and it’s all hands on deck, as this is how we fund our spring-time charitable grants and scholarships. A big push this year is to get 500 runners, so all members are asked to solicit at least three registrations. There will be a raffle for everyone who gets at least three runners signed up, and the prize is a CrabFest ticket!

30 for 30
- New policy to help support club funds is that a $30 minimum of each pledge will go to the club account, as there is high need there.
- Lissa pledged $30 to announce the Rotary booth at the Town 4th of July event was meaningful and fun.
- Jean Marc announced he is the new inspiration committee chair, and thanked the outgoing chair John Pencer.
- Elaine announced she is participating in a veterans run at Fenway Park in Boston where she will get to cross home plate.
- Avis pledged $100 to the club since she realizes it’s an expensive endeavor.
- Patti pledged $100 ($30 to club and $70 to Charities) in honor of all past President Paul did during his amazing year.

Four Fun Facts About Rachelle
- Curiosity: She has lived in six countries (Singapore, France, England, Israel, Italy, and the USA).
- Kindness: Her five sisters, kids, and husband have shown her the importance of thinking of the well being of others.
- Courage: She played women’s water polo even though she used to think she wasn’t a team sports person.
- Service: She discovered the joy of non-profits after her first career was over.

- Rabbit-eye view: Focuses on local club activities and service. Very meaningful.
- Bird’s-eye view: Focuses on Rotary International and all that RI does worldwide. Check out rotary.com for more details and offerings.
- Jet view: Focuses on the importance of society: true democracy (Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence from 1776 and Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America from 1835), and the importance of gathering from Robert Putnam’s book and documentary Bowling Alone, which mentions Rotary.
There are many club committees that need active members to run. See them at our club website. Each committee chair reports to a director on the board. Let’s post the work on social media of all the work the committees do. And let’s say no to stodgy meetings. Try something you never tried before in the club this year.
